Saint Charlemagne
The 'Belles Heures' of Jean, duc du Berry, painted by the Limburg brothers (end
of 14th century) has this portrait of Charlemagne as crowned royal saint. Charlemagne
was venerated as a saint—particularly within the royal family—in France
